The details of the crime are laid out in the first few pages: from her vantage point in heaven, Susie Salmon describes how she was confronted by the murderer one December afternoon on her way home from school. Lured into an underground hiding place, she was raped and killed. But what the reader knows, her family does not. Anxiously, we keep vigil with Susie, aching for her grieving family, desperate for the killer to be found and punished.
Sebold creates a heaven that's calm and comforting, a place whose residents can have whatever they enjoyed when they were alive -- and then some. But Susie isn't ready to release her hold on life just yet, and she intensely watches her family and friends as they struggle to cope with a reality in which she is no longer a part. To her great credit, Sebold has shaped one of the most loving and sympathetic fathers in contemporary literature.
This story will always haunt me. The scene in the beginning where Susie loses her life to the nightmarish man haunts you for the rest of the book and after. Needing him to get caught isn't enough. Calling this a crime-mystery novel isn't enough. The sorrow of Susie's loss and of the beyond horrible actions of the killer is written in a way that can only be called a tragedy.The decision I would change? I would keep Susie from that underground hiding place. Hopefully then that would change Susie's story. -

If you could be any witch from any book, movie, or television series, who would you be and why?This was a hard choice for me. At first glance, of course I would pick Winifred Sanderson, but that would be too obvious. At second glance, I would pick Glinda because of her pretty dresses and flying bubbles, but that would be too obvious as well. So, I finally settled with the voluptuously evil Ursula. The sultry sea witch can take what she pleases from willing souls, and uses her manipulative persuasion to get it. Although, yes, I wouldn't want to be evil, it would still be fun to get to be anything you want to be. Also - I love her curves and how proud she is of them! Shake it, girl.

If you could be Beatrice from Divergent, which faction would you choose - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent)?Personally, I would choose Amity. They are farmers, but I love that they value harmony and peace. Those in Amity appear to be happy - with each other, themselves, and the earth. I also like the clothing/colors that they wear much more than the other factions. It's almost as if they are the only faction who in some ways live more freely. I don't think I would ever make it in Dauntless.Who would you choose? -
Happy Thursday! It's almost Friday :) I have lots of reading to do this weekend... Drumroll please....This week's question:If you could be any character from Harry Potter, who would you be and why?
For me, its in between Hermione and Bellatrix Lestrange. I was a huge Ron-Hermione shipper, so I would love to experience their quirky, stumbling romance. They are just too cute to boot. Plus, Hermione is of course the smart one and can protect herself -quite- well. But honestly, I would be here pretty much for Ron.
As for Bellatrix? She is creepily brilliant. I would hate to be all evil, but if I had to be evil, I'd want to be crazy like her. In a way, she's so crazy that she is kinda awesome. Her abilities are quite powerful, that many are scared to face her. I always loved the scene where Hermione acted as Bellatrix!

If I could be Dorothy, I would definitely stay in the Oz. Who wants to go back to Kansas and live in black and white? And as a Midwesterner, I can only tell you how boring it is around here. Sure, I'd miss my family, but who says they can't visit? I wouldn't be able to give up all the wonderful joys and magic from Oz. There would be so much to explore and you could be anything you wanted to be, no matter how silly. Of course, I wouldn't want to become the Dorothy from Dorothy Must Die. Although I would like to learn magic, I think I would much rather stay there for the clothes. C'mon. Who would want to have pretty dresses and sparkly clothes? And float to places in a bubble?What about you? :)
